Working at an elementary school has a lot of perks.
eating bologna, playing handball, learning secret handshakes, singing songs and the like but the best and worst part is the actual learning.
sometimes i get frustrated that the kids aren’t being treated fairly, that their curriculum is too fluffy and the discipline is non-existent. and other times i think “wow, what a great way to teach that. i wish i had that.”
but today i learned that my entire notion of Amelia Earhart is a sham!
She’s known for being the first woman to make a transatlantic flight, right?
But she didn’t actually FLY the plane! She was a passenger who kept a flight log whilst two men co-piloted the flight. She just sat in the back. As she explained she was ” just baggage, like a sack of potatoes.”
A sack of potatoes!?!
I could be famous for being a proverbial sack of potatoes on a flight!!!
Yes, she had a pilot’s license and logged a bunch of hours and got lost while trying to fly around the globe but I could do that too!
Just give me a plane. I’ll show you how fast I can fail at aviation navigation.
Ugh, Amelia how you’ve disappointed me so.
Education triumphs once again, I feel sad but enlightened.
Isn’t that just the way of the world?
